About Us:
The Philadelphia Reparations Task Force is dedicated to advancing efforts for equitable reparations for Black Philadelphians, ensuring that the communities impacted by historical and systemic injustices receive support and resources to heal and thrive. We are seeking a part-time Project Manager to join our team, supporting the development and execution of strategic initiatives designed to address the economic, social, and educational inequities resulting from historical wrongs.
Job Summary:
The Part-Time Project Manager will assist in organizing, coordinating, and executing the tasks and initiatives of the Philadelphia Reparations Task Force. This individual will provide key support in ensuring the timely completion of project deliverables, facilitate communication among stakeholders, and track the progress of various reparations-related projects. The ideal candidate will be passionate about reparations for Black people, social justice, have strong project management skills, and be able to adapt to a collaborative and evolving work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Coordination: Assist Task Force Coordinators in achieving project goals, timelines, and deliverables. Help track the progress of multiple projects and ensure alignment with overall task force objectives.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project activities, meetings, and decisions. Provide regular updates and reports to Policy Director and other Council staff.•
- Stakeholder Management: Serve as a liaison between Task Force coordinators, community leaders, government agencies, and other partners involved in reparations efforts. Facilitate communication and ensure transparency across all parties.
- Resource Allocation: Help identify and manage the resources necessary to complete projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and procurement of materials or services.
- Community Engagement Support: Assist in organizing events, town halls, or community meetings related to reparations initiatives, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Support the collection and analysis of data relevant to the reparations work, helping inform decision-making and future strategies.
- Project Presentation: Work with the Council office and Task Force Coordinators to implement a plan for final reparations, recommendations and proposals to be presented to Philadelphia City Council.
- Risk and Issue Management: Identify potential risks to project success and help develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in social justice, public policy, or community-focused initiatives.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and diplomatically.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience working with diverse communities and a demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, Microsoft Project) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Graduate Degree completed or in progress, in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, social work, Africana studies) preferred, but not required based on experience.
Additional Information:
- This is a part-time, flexible position with an expected commitment of 20 hours per week.
- The position may require occasional evening or weekend work depending on the needs of the Task Force.
- Remote work is possible, though in-person meetings or events may be required.
