The Newark Police Department held a ceremony to honor the exceptional service and dedication of its officers, civilian employees, and a community member.
The event, which took place at the Courtyard by Marriott Newark-University of Delaware, recognized the contributions of over 30 individuals, highlighting their hard work and commitment to the city over the past year.
The highlight of the ceremony was the promotion of Corporal Kenneth Odom to the rank of Master Corporal.

Chief Farrall administered the Oath of Office, with Odom’s son proudly pinning the Master Corporal badge on his father in a touching moment of family recognition.
In addition to the promotion, several awards were presented during the event:
– Lions Club Officer of the Year: Master Corporal D. Bystricky
– VFW Officer of the Year: Sergeant G. Micolucci
– Newark Morning Rotary Club Public Service Award: Corporals A. Mease and Donte Faulk
– Knights of Columbus Officer of the Quarter Awards 2nd Quarter: Sergeant G. Micolucci, Master Corporal J. Kendrick, and Police Officer R. Hultberg…3rd Quarter: Master Corporal D. Bystricky…4th Quarter: Master Corporal D. Bystricky
– Life Saving Award: Corporal N. Graber
– Citation of Merit: Master Corporal C. McKennon, Police Officer K. Conner, and Civilian Robin Broomall
– Unit Citation: Recognizing over 20 officers and staff members, including Sergeants T. Maiura, G. Micolucci, and A. Olicker, and more.
– DUI Enforcement Ribbon: Master Corporal C. McKennon and Corporal C. Spencer
– Letter of Commendation: Several officers and staff for exemplary service, including Sergeant D. Saunders and Corporals D. Burgess and P. Klein.
Chief Mark Farrall praised the honorees, noting that their exceptional service continues to strengthen the department and the Newark community. The ceremony also acknowledged the support of the Newark Police Chaplains and expressed gratitude to the Courtyard by Marriott for hosting the event.
The Newark Police Department remains committed to serving and protecting the community, and the ceremony served as a reminder of the tireless efforts and sacrifice made by its dedicated personnel.
