Christina’s David DiFilippo charged for alleged sexual relations with student

A 45-year-old teacher from the Christina School District, David DiFilippo, has been charged with multiple felonies after being accused of inappropriate sexual behavior with a student at George V. Kirk Middle School in Ogletown.

The alleged incidents occurred during the 2023-2024 school year.

According to Delaware State Police, the investigation began in August 2024 after authorities learned that DiFilippo had engaged in sexually explicit conversations with a student via social media between September 2023 and February 2024.

DiFilippo of Newark is accused of making inappropriate physical contact with the student at the school during school hours.

Police say these actions caused the student to feel alarmed and uncomfortable.

After a months-long investigation, police obtained a warrant for DiFilippo’s arrest, and he surrendered to authorities on Thursday and was charged with six felonies, including sexual solicitation of a child under 18, enticement for sexual conduct, and second-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust.

DiFilippo also faces a misdemeanor charge of offensive touching.

At the time of the alleged offenses, DiFilippo was working as a gifted/talent development teacher at Kirk Middle School, a position he had held for 10 years, according to the district’s website.

The site also noted that DiFilippo valued forming strong bonds with his students and included a personal quote about enjoying his summer break.

Following his arraignment, DiFilippo was released on $65,500 secured bail.
