WILMINGTON — The Wilmington VA Medical Center is marking a significant milestone this year, celebrating 75 years of providing essential services to veterans.
A special anniversary event will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, located at 1601 Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington.
“The significance of this celebration is highlighting the appreciation we have for our veterans who choose to receive and trust in the Wilmington VA for their health care,” said Vamsee Potluri, Wilmington VA director. “We also want to show appreciation to our staff who provides our top-notch health care services to our veterans at our medical center and five clinics throughout Delaware and southern New Jersey.”
The event is open to the public, but veterans, their families, and VA employees are especially encouraged to attend.
The celebration will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including a car show, military vehicle displays, and an opportunity to meet the New Castle County Police Mounted Patrol Unit’s Clydesdale horses.

In addition to the entertainment, guests can enjoy free carnival games and live music, as well as take guided tours of the medical center.
For those interested in connecting with resources, the event will host several veteran-focused service tables offering information on critical programs such as claims clinics, enrollment services, women’s health, suicide prevention, and behavioral health.
Additionally, the event will feature Paws for Pets, a popular attraction for animal lovers, as well as information on the VA’s homeless program, My HealtheVet assistance, and the Vet Center.
Lunch will be provided during the event, ensuring attendees have the chance to relax and enjoy the day with family and friends while learning more about the services available to them.
As the Wilmington VA Medical Center continues to serve former military members in the community, this event serves as a reminder of the hospital’s long-standing commitment to honoring and supporting those who have served the nation.
“Currently the Wilmington VA and our five clinics provide health care to over 45,000 Veterans and continues to grow each year,” Potluri said. “We want to make enrolling in VA health care easy and provide any opportunity we can for Veterans. In addition to our fun activities, we will have an active claims clinic open to all Veterans and their spouses seeking to file a new claim or survivor benefits and we will also have our enrollment staff ready to assist any Veteran looking to enroll in VA health care.”
