WILMINGTON – Wilmington residents should keep an eye on parking restrictions to avoid tickets as the city of Wilmington kicks off its weekly street cleaning Tuesday.
The city’s “Beautiful City Campaign” will continue next week with the return of the Department of Public Works’ Street Cleaning Program, starting April 1.
The campaign, launched by Mayor Mike Purzycki in 2017, aims to promote a cleaner and more livable city through initiatives like street cleaning, trash bin distribution, and community cleanup events.
The cleaning service, which runs through October 31, involves specialized vehicles that wash and sweep city streets on designated days and times.

Residents living on streets included in the program are reminded to follow posted parking restrictions to ensure street cleaning can take place.
On days when street sweeping is scheduled, vehicles must be moved from the street to allow cleaning machines to pass.
Failure to move vehicles may result in fines.
Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams emphasized the importance of residents being aware of the specific street cleaning schedule for their block and advising any visitors of the parking restrictions.
She also reminded motorists, including those with residential parking permits, that they must comply with the posted signs.
However, vehicles parked in designated handicapped spaces are exempt from the street cleaning requirements and will not be ticketed, as long as they are properly marked.
Residents can report any issues related to street cleaning by calling 3-1-1 or clicking here.
