The City of Wilmington will conduct a test of its Emergency Alert and Notification system on Friday, March 28, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m.
Residents and businesses should expect to hear sirens and test verbal announcements as part of the city’s routine emergency preparedness efforts.
A total of 13 emergency sirens located throughout the city will be activated for a duration of three to five minutes during the test. These sirens, installed in 2005, serve as an additional alert system for emergencies and are monitored and tested annually by BayComm Inc.
The siren system is one component of Wilmington’s broader emergency notification network, which includes Smart 911 (a subscription-based alert service) and the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), which allows messages to be sent to mobile devices within a designated area.

This week’s test will be conducted under the supervision of Willie Patrick, the Emergency Management Director for the City of Wilmington.

- 400 Swedes Landing Road (Marine Station 7)
- East 23rd and North Church streets (Brown-Burton Winchester Park)
- East 35th and North Market streets
- North Monroe and Barrett streets (P.S. DuPont Middle School)
- West 18th Street and Baynard Boulevard (Brandywine Park)
- 400 West 2nd Street (Fire Station 1)
- Gilpin Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue (Kentmere Parkway)
- West 5th Street and North Cleveland Avenue (Mack Park)
- West 3rd and North DuPont streets (Judy Johnson Park)
- 1000 North Market Street (Rodney Square)
- West 10th and North Franklin streets (Cool Spring Park)
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for emergencies by signing up for Smart 911 and remaining aware of local alert systems.
