NEW CASTLE-Delaware State Police are investigating an assault that occurred last week as a result of a road rage incident on North Dupont Highway in New Castle.
The incident took place last Tuesday on March 11, at approximately 3:31 p.m. when troopers responded to a report of an assault near Market Place. According to the initial investigation, a Subaru Forester and a dark-colored pickup truck were involved in a road rage altercation while traveling on North Dupont Highway.
When the Subaru stopped behind the pickup truck in the left-turn lane, the driver of the pickup exited his vehicle, armed himself with an unidentified metal tool, and approached the Subaru. The suspect then shouted at the victim before striking the Subaru’s front driver-side window, shattering the glass. The suspect also struck the victim’s face with the tool before fleeing northbound on North Dupont Highway.
The victim, a 59-year-old man from New Castle, was evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Authorities describe the suspect as an older white male. No further details about the suspect or the vehicle are available at this time.
The investigation is ongoing, and police urge anyone with information to come forward.
