Biggs Museum to feature landmark Rockwell Kent exhibition

The Biggs Rockwell Kent exhibit opens to the public Thursday.

The Biggs Museum of American Art is set to open “The Prints of Rockwell Kent: Selections from the Ralf C. Nemec Collection,” an exhibition highlighting the work of the iconic American artist, Rockwell Kent.

Running from March 20 to July 6, 2025, the exhibition will offer an in-depth look at Kent’s powerful and striking prints, many of which were created in the remote surroundings of his Adirondack retreat, Asgaard Farm.

Kent, who lived from 1882 to 1971, was known for his captivating depictions of nature, which often explored the deep connection between humanity and the natural world. His work spanned multiple artistic fields, from illustrating literary classics like “Beowulf,” “Leaves of Grass,” and “Moby Dick,” to contributing illustrations to major magazines such as “Life” and “Time.”

Kent also produced politically charged prints and commercial art that resonated strongly with the American public.

Biggs’ exhibit features

The exhibition will feature a selection of prints from the Ralf C. Nemec Collection, widely regarded as the most extensive collection of Kent’s prints.

Many of these pieces were created during Kent’s time at Asgaard Farm, where he spent more than four decades producing a remarkable body of work that remains unparalleled in American printmaking.

“Rockwell Kent’s art is bold and enduring,” said Laura Fravel, chief curator at the Biggs Museum. “His prints are not only visually stunning but also deeply thought-provoking—offering a unique blend of technical mastery and social commentary. We are thrilled to present this remarkable collection and celebrate Kent’s legacy.”

The Biggs Museum, located at 406 Federal Street in Dover, Delaware, will offer free admission to the exhibition, thanks to a  donation from Dover Federal Credit Union.

The museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
