In partnership with the SL24 UnLocke the Light Foundation, New Castle County Vocational Technical School District and St. Georges Technical High School opened the first Sean’s Room in a Delaware public high school Monday.
Designed as a safe space for students to receive peer support, decompress, study, or just gather, Sean’s Room at St. Georges includes multiple areas for studying, lounging, yoga/meditation, and play, all while offering mental health supports and inspiration.
“Sean’s Room provides a safe and supportive space where students can take a break, seek resources, and prioritize their mental well-being, helping them navigate challenges in a healthy way,” said St. Georges Principal Justin Comegys. “By having this dedicated space in our school, we are fostering a culture that normalizes mental health conversations and ensures students know they are never alone.”
The need for this room is greater than ever, Comegys said, as schools continue to see the impact of stress, anxiety, and other challenges on student success.
“Having accessible support can truly make a difference in their lives,” he said.

Sean’s Room is an extension of Sean’s House, a mental health center in Newark that serves 14- to 22-year-olds.
Both are named for Sean Locke, a Delawarean who committed suicide in 2018, whose father Chris started the foundation to help push the movement to help bring awareness and end the stigma surrounding mental health.
There are a couple other Sean’s Rooms that are in private schools in Delaware. The first one opened in February 2023 at Saint Mark’s High School, where Sean attended school.
