ChristianaCare adds services in Milford to meet growing needs

ChristianaCare is expanding its staff in Milford to meet community demand.

ChristianaCare is expanding its healthcare offerings in Milford, with the addition of two experienced physicians to enhance care options for the rapidly growing local population.

The newly opened ChristianaCare Primary Care at Milford practice has welcomed Dr. Chinwe Ike-Chinwo, a board-certified primary care physician with a strong focus on preventive medicine.

Ike-Chinwo is dedicated to building long-term relationships with patients and helping them achieve optimal health through personalized care.

Her practice will offer a range of services, including sick visits, physical exams, preventive screenings, immunizations, and management of chronic conditions.

“I am excited to serve the Milford community and help individuals achieve their best health,” Ike-Chinwo said. “Through prevention, chronic disease management, and wellness care, we aim to support our patients in leading healthier, more fulfilling lives.”

Located at Halpern Plaza at 701 N. DuPont Blvd., the practice is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with plans to welcome a second provider in March. Patients can schedule an appointment by calling 302-725-3420.

In addition to general primary care, the practice will introduce ChristianaCare’s My65+ program in April, designed to offer specialized care for patients aged 65 and older, focusing on preventive care and chronic disease management.

Alongside Dr. Ike-Chinwo, Dr. Thinesh Sivapatham, a fellowship-trained neurointerventional surgeon, will offer specialized care for conditions affecting the blood vessels of the head, neck, and spine.

His expertise includes treating strokes, aneurysms, and other vascular conditions using minimally invasive techniques.

Sivapatham expressed his enthusiasm for providing neurointerventional care closer to home for residents of Milford and surrounding areas, where such specialized services are typically only available in larger metropolitan regions.

“Neurointerventional surgery is a highly specialized field that is often only found in larger cities,” he said. “I look forward to working closely with patients to ensure they receive the same high-quality care right here in Sussex County.”

ChristianaCare’s expansion in Milford comes at a time when the region is seeing a surge in population, particularly among older adults.

Projections show that Sussex County’s population will grow from 237,000 in 2022 to over 361,000 by 2050, increasing demand for healthcare services, especially in underserved areas.

“Primary care providers are in short supply, and as the demand for both primary and specialty care grows, especially for older adults, we are committed to delivering patient-centered care that prevents disease, manages chronic conditions, and promotes overall well-being,” said Dr. Priya Dixit-Patel, physician executive for Core and Advanced Primary Care at ChristianaCare.

The new Milford practice will play a crucial role in meeting the community’s health needs and improving access to specialized care.

Dr. Kim Gannon, medical director of the Comprehensive Stroke Program at ChristianaCare, emphasized the importance of local access to neurointerventional services for stroke patients.

“Providing neurointerventional care closer to home significantly improves access to essential services for stroke patients who might otherwise need to travel to Newark,” she said. “We want to ensure that patients receive the ongoing care and support they need for recovery and long-term health right here in their community.”
