WILMINGTON –Senior nursing students from the University of Delaware will work with the Wilmington Hope Commission to provide Free Walk-In Health Screenings in February to celebrate American Heart Month.
The screenings, which do not require an appointment, will occur every Thursday and Friday from February 6, 2025, through February 28, 2025, at the Hope Commission’s offices at 38 Vandever Ave. in Wilmington.
Thursday screenings will run from noon to 8 pm, while Friday screenings will run from 9 am to 1 pm.
This program is designed to make health care more accessible to everyone in the Wilmington community by eliminating barriers such as cost and scheduling. The initiative gives the students hands-on experience while directly benefiting the community. It also aligns with the University’s mission to address social determinants of health through practical, population-based care.
“We are committed to making health care accessible to all,” said Hope Commission Executive Director and state Senator Darius Brown. “By offering free, walk-in health screenings, we hope to empower individuals to prioritize their health in an easy and approachable way.”
The Hope Commission is Delaware’s premier correctional reentry program. It provides comprehensive reentry support services that target crime-causing factors, shown to be predictors of recidivism, for formerly incarcerated high-risk men leaving prison and returning to Wilmington’s most distressed communities.
