The No. 9 Appoquinimink Jaguars ended a two game losing streak with a two point upset victory over No. 4 Odessa at home. The Jaguars were able to hold off a comeback from the No. 4 ranked team in the state, the Odessa Ducks for a 57-55 victory.
The Jaguars were coming off a two game losing streak with back to back losses to Middletown and Howard. The Jags were desperate for a win and got it in front of a packed home crowd defeating the No. 4 ranked team the Odessa Ducks.
With two minutes left in the game Appo led by four points, but the Ducks were able to bring the lead down to two points as they found themselves with a last second opportunity to tie or take the lead for the win. The Ducks had the ball with 6.1 seconds left.
After the inbounds pass Dyson Scott was found open for a baseline shot that hit the side of the rim. Henry Nyasagare was there for the miss and the putback, but the ball rolled out of the rim as time expired.
Appo was led by Desai Drummond who scored 18 points for the Jaguars. Drummond, a two -sport athlete, was honored before the game with his head coach Brian Timpson as the Gatorade Football Player of the Year. The Ducks were led by Jalen Bernikow who led all scorers with 24 points in the game.
