MIDDLETOWN — The No. 9 Appoquinimink Jaguars ended a two-game losing streak with a two-point upset win over Odessa at home. The Jaguars held off a comeback from the fourth-ranked team in the state for a 57-55 victory.
Coming off back-to-back losses to Middletown and Howard, the Jags were desperate for a win and got it in front of a packed home crowd, With two minutes left in the game, Appo led by four points, but the Ducks were able to bring the lead down to two points as they found themselves with a last-second opportunity to tie or take the lead for the win.
With 6.1 seconds left, the Ducks had possession. After the inbounds pass, Dyson Scott was open for a baseline shot that hit the side of the rim. Henry Nyasagare was there for the miss and the putback, but the ball rolled out of the rim as time expired.
Appo was led by Desai Drummond, who scored 18 points. Drummond, a two -sport athlete, was honored before the game with his head coach Brian Timpson as the Gatorade Football Player of the Year.
The Ducks were led by Jalen Bernikow, who led all scorers with 24 points.
