DOVER — The No. 2 St. Elizabeth Vikings fell behind the home-standing Dover Senators by double digits in the second half but fought back to beat the No. 3 Senators 50-48.
Down 16 points — 35-19 — in the third quarter, St. Elizabeth’s stepped up their defensive pressure and looked to one of their leaders to get them back in the game.
With five minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Vikings tied the game up 43-43 on a corner three from Kiyan Alexander. But senior Steven Nixon Jr. hit clutch free throws down the stretch and led the Vikings with 19 points.
Interview with St. E’s Steven Nixon Jr.
In a post-game interview, Nixon was asked what changed in the second half that helped lead to the victory.
“I feel like it was more of us coming together and playing as a team,” he said. “We needed to build each other up instead of keeping our heads down.”
Alexander joined Nixon in double-digit points with 12 to help lead the Vikings to the two-point victory.
