NEWARK — The University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business and Economics is partnering with Charles Schwab to create a new Financial Planning Center that will open this fall at the STAR Campus FinTech Innovation Hub.
The Center will enable senior financial planning majors to provide peer-to-peer coaching to fellow students on such topics as student loan repayment, 401k investing, insurance, and budgeting. This hands-on experience will help prepare the advisors for careers in financial services while offering valuable financial guidance to their peers.
“Working in this industry requires exceptional interpersonal skills, and the only way to hone those is by working with clients,” said Richard Jakotowicz, director of UD’s financial planning and wealth management program.
“Experiential learning through strong industry partnerships is a vital part of our mission to prepare students to succeed in their careers,” said Oliver Yao, dean of the Lerner College. “As one of the largest financial services companies in the country, Charles Schwab is perfectly poised to help our Blue Hens explore the nuances of working in financial planning.”
