STATEMENT FROM COUNCILMEMBER GAUTHIER AFTER CITY RECORDS 10 HOMICIDES IN SEPTEMBER, LOWEST IN ALMOST A DECADE

PHILADELPHIA Today, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier (3rd District) released the following statement in response to the news that Philadelphia only experienced 10 homicides during September 2024, the lowest monthly total since April 2015:

“The news that there were only 10 homicides in September and that shootings are down nearly 40% proves our comprehensive anti-violence strategy is working. This gives me hope that we are turning the page on a particularly violent past few years and reaffirms that we are not helpless.

“However, I know I speak for all of my City Council colleagues when I say that 10 homicide victims are 10 too many. Our work is far from over, but I have never been more confident that we are on the path to zero.

“Thank you to everyone who has made combatting gun violence a priority: Council President Johnson and my Council colleagues, District Attorney Krasner, Mayor Parker, Commissioner Bethel, Chief Public Safety Director Geer, our hardworking City employees, and most especially our community partners.”
