PHILADELPHIA — Today, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier (3rd District) released the following statement in response to the news that Philadelphia only experienced 10 homicides during September 2024, the lowest monthly total since April 2015:
“The news that there were only 10 homicides in September and that shootings are down nearly 40% proves our comprehensive anti-violence strategy is working. This gives me hope that we are turning the page on a particularly violent past few years and reaffirms that we are not helpless.
“However, I know I speak for all of my City Council colleagues when I say that 10 homicide victims are 10 too many. Our work is far from over, but I have never been more confident that we are on the path to zero.
“Thank you to everyone who has made combatting gun violence a priority: Council President Johnson and my Council colleagues, District Attorney Krasner, Mayor Parker, Commissioner Bethel, Chief Public Safety Director Geer, our hardworking City employees, and most especially our community partners.”
