As the season enters week 4, there has been some movement in both divisions in the top 10. Milford, Newark Charter, and Indian River are making their mark this season. Cape, Delmar, Newark Charter, Middletown, and Odessa remain undefeated to date. The big matchups are yet to come. Newark Charter/Caravel @ Newark Charter Oct. 1, Middletown/ Odessa @ Middletown Oct. 7, and Delmar/Cape see each other at Delmar Oct. 17. Mark your calendars!!!

Division 1 Field Hockey

No. 1  Cape Henlopen (6-0) The Vikings remain undefeated so far, which is not a surprise. . Senior  Macy Steinwedel has put up 8 goals,  Mairead RIshko has 7, and Emily Wells has 4. Goalkeeper Isabella Mekulski has 13 saves and freshman Myla Smith has 1. The Vikings host Indian River Tuesday Sept. 24 and play at Milford Thursday Sept. 26.

No. 2   Milford (5-1) The Bucs are coming off an exciting overtime win at Lake Forest to lift them to 5-1. Isabel Betts scored the game winner in that contest. The only loss is to out-of-state St.s Peter & Paul of MD. Hannah Zimmerman leads in goals (13) and assists (4). Isabel Betts and Bailey Masten aren’t far behind. The Bucs get tested this week facing off against No.1 Cape Henlopen at home on Tuesday Oct. 1 at 4 pm.

No. 3 Charter School of Wilmington (4-1) The Force moved to the No. 3 this week after picking up 2 wins against Tower Hill & Conrad. Alexa Guarneri continues to lead the offense with 12 goals. They are on the road this week with games TuesdaySept. 24 at Tatnall, 4 pm and at the Chase Fieldhouse 3:30 Thursday Sept. 26 to take on St. Elizabeth’s

No. 4   Smyrna (3-2) The Eagles improve to 3-2 but drop a spot in the rankings this week. Their strength of schedule keeps them in the top 5. They will be challenged by the Division 2 state champ Delmar this week, in Delmar on Tuesday Sept. 24 at 4 pm before hosting Sussex Central Thursday Sept. 26 at 4 pm.

No. 5 Middletown (5-0) The Cavaliers picked up an ever important in-district win against sister school Appoquinimink Friday with a 4-0 win. They will spend this week on the road at Newark Charter, Sept. 24, 3:45 pm – this will be their first big test of the season. On Friday Sept. 27 they will go to Mount Pleasant to make up a previously scheduled game.

No. 6   Odessa (5-0) The Ducks are 5-0 and have outscored their opponents 37 – 4, scoring 11 goals in each of their last two games. They have one game this week at home against Concord at 4 pm on Wednesday Sept. 27. Sophia Ridgeway leads the offense in goals (7) and assists (3).

No. 7 Caesar Rodney (2-2) The Riders climb a spot this week but have a tough part of the schedule coming this week. They will face Lake Forest at home Monday Sept. 23,then travel to Dover Thursday Sept. 26. Both games have 4 pm start times. 9 players have scored for the Riders but someone needs to step up and dominate offensively.

No. 8 Polytech (2-3) The Panthers have dropped three in a row, but two of them were to the State Champs in each Division – Cape Henlopen & Delmar. Unfortunately they face another tough opponent at  Sussex Academy on Tuesday Sept. 24, 5:30 pm and then host Sussex Tech on Thursday Sept. 26 at 4 pm.

No. 9   Sussex Tech (2-2-1)  The Ravens travel all week and need to keep up the winning ways. Tuesday is a short trip to Seaford at 4 pm and Thursday is a trip north to Polytech for a 4 pm game.

No. 10 Padua (2-4) The Pandas had a rough week with Smyrna and Caravel. They get a break and only play one game but a tough St. Mark’s team will be ready. They play Tuesday at 3:45.

Division 2 Field Hockey

No 1. Delmar (6-0)  The Wildcats remain undefeated and at the top of Division 2 hockey. They host two quality opponents this week in Smyrna Sept. 24 and Lake Forest Sept. 26. Both games start at 4 pm. Jordyn Hollamon leads the team with 24 goals and 5 assists.

No 2.  Newark Charter (6-0) The Patriots move up a spot this week as they stay perfect at 6-0. They split the week hosting Middletown on Tuesday Sept. 24 at 3:45 pm and travel to Conrad to take on the Red Wolves Thursday Sept. 26, also at 3:45 pm.

No 3. Caravel (5-1) The Bucs surprised me a little by dropping a game to Sussex Academy so they drop to No. 3 this week. Let’s see if they can bounce back this week 9/24 hosting Archemere at 6:15 and Saturday Sept. 28 at St. Mark’s at noon. Katie Cole leads the way with 10 goals and 7 assists.

No 4. Sussex Academy (4-1) The Seahawks came up big this week with a win over the Caravel Bucs, and their only loss was to Delmar, so they move up a spot this week and become my number 4. They will host Polytech Tuesday Sept. 24 at 5:30 and then go to Seaford on the 26th . Shelby Manlove (5 goals) and Rilyn Lehman (3 goals) lead the Seahawks offense.

No 5. Wilmington Friends (4-1) The Quakers need to continue their winning ways and pick up two more wins this week. They will be on the road for two games this week at St. Andrew’s Tuesday 9/24 and at Tower Hill, Saturday Sept. 28. Molly Dolan and Sawyer Rowland lead the offense with 8 and 4 goals respectively.

No.6 Indian River (4-1) The Indians move up 2 places in this week’s top 10. Coach Torrie Huk has them on a 3 game winning streak. They travel all week and face a tough Cape team on Tuesday at 6 pm in Champions Stadium. Then Thursday they will head to Laurel for a 4 pm start. Baylie Williamson leads the offense with 12 goals and 11 assists.

No 7.  Tower Hill (3-2) The Hillers have dropped their last two games and need to get back on track this week. They have all week to prepare and play Saturday at 11 am when they host Wilmington Friends. The Vanni sisters are leading the offense; Charlotte (8 goals, 4 assists) and Ella 3 goals, 2 assists).

No 8. Lake Forest (2-2) The Spartans lost a heartbreaker in OT this week to Milford. They will need to regroup against CR 9/23 and Dover on Sept. 24. Playing back to back can be tough and create some fatigue, but then they will have the rest of the week to re-coop. Carmella Gannon and Brynn String lead with goals while freshman goalkeeper has 20 saves on the season.

No 9. St. Mark’s (2-2) The Spartans stay at .500. They play three games this week, 2 back to back. Monday Sept. 23 they host St. Elizabeth’s, Sept. 24 Padua, and Sept. 28 Caravel at noon. They will be tested this week for sure. Katherine Hanich and Emersyn O’Leary lead the offense.

No. 10  Tatnall (2-3) As stated last week, the Hornets are hanging on in the Top 10 this week but had a challenging week last week, losing 3 in a row.  The Hornets see Wilmington Charter Tuesday and travel to St. Andrew’s on Thursday Sept. 24. Anastasia Tsatsaronis (4 goals, 1 assist), Paige Hiller (3 goals, 2 assists), and goalkeeper Sophia Sirotinin-Remmel (33 saves) lead the Hornets.
