CITY COUNCIL PASSES COUNCILMAN O’NEILL LEGISLATION INCREASING HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION TO $100,000

PHILADELPHIA | June 17, 2024 – Legislation co-introduced by Councilman Brian O’Neill will increase the Homestead Exemption from $80,000 to $100,000. The original proposal raising the Homestead Exemption to $90,000 was increased to $100,000 by amendment and approved unanimously by City Council. This represents a 25% increase in the value of the Homestead Exemption.

If you own your primary residence, you are eligible to receive the Homestead Exemption. The Homestead Exemption reduces the taxable portion of your property’s assessed value. There are no income limits. Under the new $100,000 exemption, over 30,000 enrolled owner-occupants in his Far Northeast district will now save a total of $1,400.00 annually; an increase of $281.00.  If you are currently enrolled in the Homestead Exemption you do NOT need to reapply.

Councilmember O’Neill has four Neighborhood Offices in the Far Northeast to serve you. To enroll in the homestead exemption or if you have any questions about the program, please call or visit one of Councilman O’Neill’s five full-time offices:

  • Bustleton & Bowler above the 7th Police District (215-685-0432)
  • FOP Lodge #5 Headquarters at 11630 Caroline Road (215-437-9167)
